Permanent Collection
Through a multiplicity of museological responsibilities, including research, presentation and circulation of exhibitions, documentation and publications pertaining to exhibitions and works in the Permanent Collection, research and development of public programmes, and critical development of the Permanent Collection, the Kamloops Art Gallery attempts to be relevant and responsive to the diverse communities it serves.
The Permanent Collection is developed to include contemporary Canadian art in all media and a small number of historic Canadian works to contextualize the contemporary focus and reflect the local area. The KAG programme concentrates on contemporary art and boldly addresses and contextualizes the urgent and often-contentious issues inherent in the politics of representation, identity, gender, commodity culture, and global communications. As a regional institution focusing on contemporary practices, KAG seeks to demonstrate a high degree of curatorial integrity by maintaining a strong commitment to the community and to local and regional artists. By responding to a diverse number of interests and concerns, KAG contributes to the cultural climate of the region, while bringing Kamloops into a broader discussion nationally and internationally. |
