The Gallery

Mission Statement

The Kamloops Art Gallery is the principal Gallery for the visual arts in the Southern Interior of British Columbia. The Gallery is committed to the belief that art is an essential part of the human experience. It is dedicated to making this belief tangible within the communities it serves.

The Kamloops Art Gallery has accepted responsibility for fostering enjoyment of and interest in the visual arts through the development and organization of programs that relate to, challenge, and educate its audiences.

To these ends, the Gallery encourages participation in the visual arts through public programs, the research and development of exhibitions, the development of a permanent collection, publishing, and preservation of  regional, national, and international art in all media.

Facts and Figures:

• The Kamloops Art Gallery was incorporated in 1978.
• The Gallery officially opened on September 23, 1978.
• The new Gallery in the Civic Building was officially opened on September 18, 1998.
• The Gallery's current operating budget is $1.4 million.
• Approximately 30,000 people visit the Gallery each year.
• Governing Authority: Board of Trustees
• In accordance with the Society Act, the Gallery prepares and presents at its Annual General Meeting an audited report for each fiscal year.
• Over 1,500 school children visit the Gallery each year.
• The economic impact of the Kamloops Art Gallery into the community of Kamloops is in excess of $3.5 million dollars each year.
