• Supervisor to student ratio for K-7 is 1:08, all other groups must have a minimum of two supervisors
• Payment is due upon arrival at the Gallery with either Visa, MasterCard, cash or cheque (payable to Kamloops Art Gallery)

• 60-minute exhibition tour
• A comprehensive Teachers Guide, which includes pre-and post-visit activities along with a description of the program and goals, will be mailed to you

Tours

Our tours are conducted by trained art instructors and docents and explore the artworks and artists in the Gallery’s main exhibitions through age appropriate critical discussions. The tours target various areas of the BC Curriculum—English Language Arts, Social Studies and Visual Arts—and, if applicable, provide cross-curriculum connections for grades K-12 by focusing on:

• art criticism
• exchanging and generating ideas
• listening and reflection
• developing/ enhancing vocabulary
• making learning connections
• comparing and contrasting
• questioning
• visualizing
• considering alternative viewpoints
• developing opinions; and
• considering the roles of art and artists in reflecting, sustaining and challenging beliefs and traditions.

Workshops

Our workshops are conducted by trained art instructors who specialize in a variety of art forms in their own artistic practice. Workshops connect with our main exhibitions and are directed towards all grades by defining appropriate and diverse art-making activities for grades K-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. Students experiment with a variety of traditional and contemporary visual arts tools and materials in our well-equipped studios. Please refer to the specific workshop descriptions and curriculum connections for each exhibition and, if your class has a particular focus you would like to highlight, please let us know.

Teachers' Guides

Book a tour or a tour & workshop with the Kamloops Art Gallery and we will provide you with a Teachers' Guide for pre- or post-visit visual arts activities for grades K to 12, detailed information on exhibitions, curriculum connections, a glossary of useful terms for use in the classroom and assessment guides.
