FOR CHILDREN

Spring Art Camp

Half-day art camps for children ages 4 to 12.
Monday to Friday, March 8 to 12

Students experience an interactive guided tour of the exhibition Two Visions: Emily Carr and Jack Shadbolt. Using this exhibition, students explore the lives of Emily Carr and Jack Shadbolt, their art practices, influences and points of connection. Emily Carr was born, lived and died in Victoria; Jack Shadbolt was born in England and died in Vancouver. Students learn pencil sketching, how to create a painting based on the sketch; they study colour and how Carr and Shadbolt used colour, and learn how to create images of butterflies and other creatures with collage and paint. Summer Art Camps

July 5 to August 27

Made possible with assistance from Canadian Heritage through the Young Canada Works in Heritage Institutions program.

The Kamloops Art Gallery is planning a summer packed with fun. Sign up for camp, join a guided tour of the exhibition and participate in art-making in the studios.

University fine arts and education students lead the classes. Working with a theme of the week, participants experiment with a variety of art materials and discover new art techniques. Students create a range of imaginative 3-D projects in plaster of Paris, book arts, jewellery, and multi-media sculpture. Students also learn basic drawing, painting, colour mixing and various printmaking techniques.

Art Camps run from July 5 to August 27 with week-long sessions of full-day classes for ages 7 to 12 and half-day classes for ages 4 to 6.

Registration begins Monday, May 10, 2010.
