THE INLAND SENTINEL
Thursday, December 22, 1881

The recent wet weather has retarded the progress of Railway work. In the upper camps a large force is employed. the track is laid from Emory to Yale, 4 ½ miles, and from here about 7 miles up the line, where bridge work is going on. The prediction that the engine would reach the Big Tunnel by New years is not likely to be fulfilled. Early Spring may see the cars running to Tunnel City. Even that is a stretch in the right direction. time and perseverance will do the work.

Last week a "land slide," so-called, took place at the East end of Big Tunnel, blocking up the opening. Several days were required to clear away the obstruction. the men employed received quite an alarm and were somewhat timid to take hold in the work of removal. Fears are entertained that other slides in the vicinity will take place before long. too much care cannot be taken to be ready to "stand from under."
