Cow Killed by Engine No. 3

Wednesday afternoon some of Mr. Lawrence's cows were near the Acid Works when Engine No. 3 with a tender in front and some cars following left Yale for Emory, and after passing over the Gordon Creek bridge the cows were seen and the whistle tooted, which frightened them and they commenced running from the river side over the track. However, the tender struck one of the cows and slid her along the rail some yards when the wheels of both tender and engine passed over portions of the animal; the front portion of the tender was thrown off the rails, and a narrow escape was had from going over the steep bank into the river. We learn a number of persons, including some ladies, were on board the train and felt considerably alarmed. Contradictory statements are made as to the speed the engine was running at the time of the accident. Too much caution cannot be taken in town and vicinity.
