THE INLAND SENTINEL

We recently spoke of the locomotive "Lytton," lately arrived, as a 'fine' one, having heard it was a new engine instead of another painted up affair from the Truckee road in Nevada, where D.O. Mills' railway stock is on the decline. Last Thursday, the "Lytton" was coming up with a train and when near Harrison river 'it gin out,' the steamchest having weakened with its load. Fortunately Master Mechanic Armstrong, (who is said to have a very ingenious way of making a square plug fit in a round hole,) was on board, and, as usual, with a jack knife and a pocketful of plugs he sort of fixed up the engine, so that it was able to bring through a couple of cars, reaching Yale many hours late. It is well enough for the Government to know what kind of engines are in use for after a short time, doubtless, an attempt will be made to sell out all the plant now used in running the road.
