Railway at Black Canyon

The Black Canyon area is on the Thompson River about 5 miles south of Ashcroft and was on Contract 63. In the 1880's, it seems that there were two areas known as 'Black Canyon' and the scene depicted here is at White's Creek Bridge, about 10 miles downstream from North Bend, and therefore on Contract 60. The above caption is that used in the Onderdonk albums. The same photograph is in the collection of the Vancouver Public Library (#412) and is entitled 'White's Creek.'
